Kwerjik, Juba, South Sudan — The 4th National Debate Championship (SSDC-2026) has officially opened at St. Mary’s Academy – Kwerjik, bringing together students, teachers, and debate teams from different parts of South Sudan for a national celebration of knowledge, communication, and leadership.

Organized by the Teachers Without Borders Association, the championship is being held under the theme: “Voice of a Nation Builder,” highlighting the importance of empowering young people to express their ideas, engage in meaningful discussions, and develop skills that contribute to nation-building.

The annual competition provides a platform for students to strengthen their confidence, public speaking abilities, critical thinking, and teamwork through structured debates, poetry, and public speaking activities.

This year’s championship has attracted participation from schools and debate teams representing various states across South Sudan. Many participants traveled long distances to attend the event, with some teams spending several days on the journey to reach the host venue.

The organizers recognized the commitment and dedication of the participating teams, appreciating the efforts made by teachers, students, and debate supporters who came together for the national event.

“We appreciate all the teams (teachers and debaters) that came from all the various states,” the organizers said, acknowledging the commitment shown by participants from across the country.

Beyond competition, SSDC-2026 serves as a learning platform where young people can exchange ideas, build confidence, and develop communication skills that will benefit them in education, leadership, and future professional opportunities.

The Teachers Without Borders Association emphasized the role of such initiatives in nurturing the next generation of South Sudanese leaders by encouraging young people to use their voices positively and participate in shaping the future of the nation.

As the debates officially begin, SSDC-2026 is expected to showcase some of South Sudan’s brightest young minds, bringing together creativity, knowledge, and leadership through the power of speech.
